Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course

Ah, what a splendid Sunday it was, as I embarked on a journey through the pristine fairways of The Arroyo Trabuco in Mission Viejo. Nestled amidst nature's embrace, this 18-hole championship-length masterpiece is a collaborative creation of none other than PGA Tour professional Tom Lehman and the esteemed local golf course architect, Casey O’Callaghan.

Blessed with temperatures in the balmy 60s, albeit accompanied by a gentle breeze that gradually escalated into a formidable force on the back 9, the weather set the stage for an unforgettable golfing odyssey. And to add to the charm, it happened to be one of those rare languid days at the course, ensuring our pace remained unhurried, devoid of any frustrating waits.

Arroyo Trabuco's splendor knows no bounds, with each hole offering breathtaking vistas that soothe the soul. However, it must be noted that the ongoing aeration activities posed a challenge, particularly with the greens exhibiting a certain degree of unpredictability. Some fairways also bore the scars of wear, contributing to the trials of the day. My only gripe? The daunting brush lining the greensides, proving to be an unforgiving abyss for errant shots, as I sadly bid adieu to two sleeves of golf balls—a rare occurrence in my recent memory.

Yet, amidst these trials, there were triumphs aplenty. A remarkable day unfolded with my trusty Driver, finding the fairway on 10 out of 14 occasions—a personal victory worth savoring. Moreover, it marked the inaugural round with my newly acquired 2021 Srixon Zx4 irons, their feel promising a fruitful partnership in the rounds to come. Surprisingly, it was the wedges that stole the show, as I effortlessly navigated any approach within the 50-yard mark onto the welcoming greens. As for putting, well, let's just blame it on the roughness of the greens—a humorous scapegoat, indeed!

Adding to the allure of Arroyo Trabuco is the presence of Michael Block, the esteemed head instructor, whose accolades include a gripping triumph in the SCPGA Match Play Championship. His expertise undoubtedly enriches the golfing experience, offering insights that elevate one's game to new heights.

Despite carding a 108—a score that may not fully reflect the day's brilliance—I depart with a sense of accomplishment. For amidst the challenges and lost balls that accounted for eight strokes, there lies a tale of mastery and progress. Arroyo Trabuco has left an indelible mark on my golfing journey, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to grace its fairways once more. Until then, may the spirit of the game continue to guide our swings and the allure of the greens beckon us forth.
